Sabrina - I Love Acoustic 3 (Intimate Interpretations Of Your Favorite Hits) [2010]

Following the success of I Love Acoustic 2,Sabrina and her label wasted no time in releasing the follow-up album I Love Acoustic 3. You can’t find any breakthrough in music here as the music follows the same formula as past albums – sparse, low-key interpretations of 16 hit singles by popular artists including Katy Perry and Justin Bieber.

The new arrangements aren’t particularly fresh or innovative, nor do they reveal anything about the original recordings of the artist. Few, if any, are completely reinvented. Hearing Sabrina sing Ke$ha’s Tik Tok (without the auto tune) unfortunately does not work – it just sounds weird.

I Love Acoustic 3 succeeds as often as it fails – there are missteps in this ‘acoustic’ album; not all tracks work. I don’t see why some had been reworked quite like they were. Need You Now and Pyramid benefit greatly from sparse, loose arrangements, but other tracks such as OMGand Tik Tok lay there wondering who tripped the breakers.

All that said, the album is not outstanding but well worth hearing – especially for those who like stripped-down music.
