She was born in Belleville, Ontario, but spent the majority of her youth in the small town, Napanee, Ontario. By the age of 15, she had appeared on stage with Shania Twain, and by 16, Lavigne had signed a recording contract with Arista, now RCA Records. Record executive Antonio "L.A." Reid offered her a two-album deal worth more than $2 million. When she was 17 years old, Lavigne broke onto the music scene with her debut album, Let Go, released in 2002.

The Best Damn Thing is the third studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne. It was released on April 13, 2007 through RCA Records. According to the IFPI, The Best Damn Thing was the fourth top-selling album worldwide and Sony BMG's top-selling album of 2007. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA on June 15, 2007 and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The explicit versions of the album were Lavigne's first to receive a Parental Advisory label, shown on the limited and deluxe editions.

The album was Lavigne's third consecutive #1 album in the UK Albums Chart and her second on the U.S. Billboard 200, as well as reaching the #1 spot in several other countries. The first single released from the album, "Girlfriend", reached the top of the charts in over twelve countries worldwide, including her first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number 1 single. Four singles were officially released from The Best Damn Thing as well as the soundtrack single for the 2006 film Eragon, "Keep Holding On".

Avril Lavigne - Let Go [2002]

Let Go is the debut album by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne, released on June 4, 2002. For a year after signing a record deal with Arista, Lavigne struggled due to conflicts in musical direction. Lavigne relocated to Los Angeles, California, and recorded there her earlier materials for the album, the kind of sound of which the label was not amenable. She was paired to the production team The Matrix, who understood her vision for the album.

The album was credited as the biggest pop debut of 2002. It was released to generally positive critical reviews, although Lavigne's songwriting received some negative comments. Let Go was 6x platinum in the United States. It also did extremely well in Canada, receiving a diamond certification from the Canadian Recording Industry Association, as well as reaching multi-platinum in many countries around the world, including the UK in which she became the youngest female solo artist to have a number-one album in the region.
