Taylor Swift Speak Now (Deluxe Edition) 2CD
(2010)
Global Superstar Taylor Swift has solidified her position as one of the most important artists to emerge on the popular music scene this decade. Since her self-titled released back in 2006 certified platinum, Taylor has gone on to break an array of records worldwide with subsequent releases. Her last record 'Fearless' reached double platinum status in the US after its release and was the year's biggest US debut for any female artist. With her new single 'Mine' due for release on October 11th already garnering much attention, 'Speak Now' will clearly be no exception to her success. Swift's lyrical efforts have often been described as 'autobiographical' therefore she chose to express full writing credit for the new record alongside Nathan Chapman serving as co-producer.
Already, 'Mine' took the number 1 spot on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs Chart just four days after its release. With the historic debut of 'Mine', Taylor joins Mariah Carey as the only female artists in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart to debut more than one single in the Top 5 in a calendar year. Taylor is currently nominated for a 2010 MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
Baltimore trio Thank You have spent the past five years honing and dissecting their sound at regular intervals. Obtuse and unrelenting, their discordant racket serves as a soundtrack to their native city's bleak industrial climate, in the same way Big Black characterised mid-Eighties Illinois or Pere Ubu a decade earlier with Cleveland. Their cross-pollinated genre hybrid ranges from the angular verges of post-punk, through to leftfield abstract noise via occasional slabs of dissonant funk when least expected. In many ways they're something of a quandary, yet for all their awkward angst-ridden statements of intent, there's something of an engaging presence about them if Golden Worry is anything to go by.

V.A A Tribute To Uriah Heep - A Return To Fantasy
(2003)
Evil Dr. Smith: Heeperdepeep, is this finally the very first tribute to a band that’s standing at the fundaments of our beloved music style? After almost 35 years! THAT’S ABOUT GOD DAMN BLOODY TIME! Uriah Heep: the ideal bridge between the symfo-rock of Yes, E.L.P. and Genesis at one bank and the hard rock from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Sir Lord Baltimore at the other bank. With the almost gay-like ‘oohz’ and ‘aahz’-backing vocals, the compositors brain and organ(ic)-sound from Ken Hensley, the splitting guitar riffs from Mick Box (still in the band!) and of course the characteristic high-pitched, almost nasal voice from David Byron (R.I.P.) the band made with albums like 'Very 'Eavy, Very 'Umble', 'Look At Yourself' and 'Demons And Wizards' (ever wondered how ex-Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer and Blind Guardian’s Hansi Kursch came up with their band name?) an impressive collection of legendary and classic melodic hard rock albums. Doomed, despised and buried to the ground by the so-called politically correct music journalism, but loved to the death by huge amounts of fanatical fans.
I won’t bore you by the group’s history, you can read that on several Heep-sites (or in the booklet in this CD). I only want to make clear that this band is more than its one-day fly ‘Easy Livin’’ that everyone who’s older than 12 years must have heard countless of times on every mainstream radio-channel around the world. Heep made other remarkable and immortal songs like ‘The Wizard’, ‘Look At Yourself’, ‘Come Away Melinda’ (this cover ballad is also covered by UFO, but in no way as beautiful as Heep did), ‘Sweet Lorraine’, ‘Echoes in The Dark’ and of course the ultimate Uriah Heep-hymne ‘July Morning’. And all these songs are NOT featured on this tribute, just to emphasise the amount of classic songs (do I smell here a Tribute Volume 2 already?). De bands featured on this album can be mostly classified in the category power metal. And judging the fantasy sleeves on the old Heep albums (and some of them are used on this cut-and-paste-cover) as well as Heep’s flirtations with symphonic sounds in their ancient metal, it’s no wonder that especially this metal genre is holding Heep close to its heart.
